The customary check in & picking a side

A pattern I’ve noticed recently: people checking in on Facebook saying nothing other than “customary checkin”. My interpretation of their thought process is as follows: The person thinks he is not one of those people who checkin to showoff to their friends or to document their travels, the person is trying to say that he is not a vain individual but still feels the need to check in as it is a custom or in other words, “I’m not like you but I’ll do exactly as you do” If you’re doing a customary checkin, please also bother to slip in a customary caption and jump in wholeheartedly; rather than be lame by not doing so. Do you really want people to know that you’re at XYZ place? Will it be useful to you?  Will it be useful to them? Then why don’t you do it enthusiastically? Extending this, the above tirade translates to picking a side in life and sticking to it. Don’t do something because everyone else is doing it,  especially when life affords you the opportunity to exercise your better judgement & not do something stupid . Why adopt a fake holier-than-thou attitude and continue to behave like everyone else when you can make the smarter choice however different it may be.
