Crackers on Diwali

It used to be fun watching and setting alight firecrackers on Diwali, but this year i suddenly feel like a moron about using firecrackers. They’re loud, cause air and noise pollution, make life hell for asthma patients, animals and senior citizens; apart from being a serious threat to your life ( or the life of someone in the vicinity of the explosive). We basically allow ourselves and our children to play with bombs once a year! Which is ridiculous. Though in some way, bright explosions and flashing colours do make for a spectacular display, it’s better if we did this thing more smartly.  A possible solution would be to adopt what a lot of cities do on New Years Eve and go for a public fireworks display.  Advantages:

  1. It can be way more spectacular
  2. Reduces pollution
  3. Choosing a good outdoor venue = few people affected by noise, smoke, etc. Disadvantages:
  4. You’ll have to travel to see the display  (^Not really a disadvantage if you’re fine watching it on TV)
