After nearly two decades of farming the digital lands of big tech, I decided to rebel and embrace the IndieWeb, own my data and go POSSE. This site is my social media home where I post, toot and beep. Posts are then synced to other networks. As an avid technologist, this is my little rebellion against the suffocating norms that prevail.

What is the IndieWeb? It’s a movement for small, personally maintained websites instead of using mass platforms like Facebook, Instagram, etc. What is POSSE? It stands for Publish on Own Site Synchronize Everywhere, where you own your media/content by posting it on your own domain first, and synchronizing it elsewhere.

Right now posts are automatically sent to Mastodon and Bluesky. (Re)Posting to Twitter and Threads is manual. This was enough for me as a version 1. There is no synchronizing back of mentions or notifications. That felt like a feature because it reduces the amount of attention this consumes.

As a bonus, I’ve also imported liberated all my posts from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram into a searchable archive for keeps. I think the Instagram archive isn’t imported properly but who cares ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
